Dealing With Stress And Depression Without Socialization
Alright. So, you are in a lockdown. This means that you are safe from the virus, but it doesn’t mean that you are going to have no issues. In fact, being cooped up inside with no socialization is not good for your mental health, and it wouldn’t be surprise me if in a short while, people start to report a lot of stress and depression. Thankfully, there are ways that you can deal with it.
What I first need you to remember is that socialization isn’t completely off the table here. While you may not be able to meet people in person, you can certainly call them up or video chat. It isn’t going to be quite the same, but at least you are going to be interacting with people.
You may also want to look into having a little bit more of a rigid schedule. It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of people in lockdown are just going to sit back and chill. I know it seems like this is something that will help with stress, but it won’t. Take away a routine when you had one before and you may slip into depression. It almost seems as if you no longer have anything that you can aim for in life. Fix this problem by doing the same things you used to do daily. For example; hop in the shower. Get dressed for work. Just do something. Don’t just wake up and sit around in your pajamas all day. You are just asking for trouble.
You will also need something to occupy your mind. While I doubt you are going to be taking up any major hobbies while in isolation, you could easily learn how to cook or do a creative project or something. It doesn’t need to be good, it just needs to be something that you have worked on and distracted yourself.
Some people even suggest that you take up a spot of volunteering. There are a lot of people in your local area who are going to need your help in this time of crisis. If you volunteer, not only will you be able to talk to these people (just a little, don’t break that social distancing!), but you will have yet another thing to occupy your mind. It will probably make you feel real good about yourself too, which is also great!
