When Will the Violence End? Workplace violence, especially against women, is on an unfortunate rise.
Special guest global consultant and author Phil la Duke is here this week to talk about a more serious topic than you’re used to hearing about on Dear God are We There Yet.
Homicide is the number one cause of death in the workplace for women. 33 percent will be murdered by a jealous ex-husband or ex-boyfriend. 70 percent of non-lethal workplace violence is perpetrated against women.
These crimes of passion are happening more frequently.
Phil speculates that the spike in workplace violence against women is due, at least in part, to women who get protection from abuse (PFA) orders, and then fail to warn their bosses, coworkers or workplace security, at the risk of losing respect, or even their jobs.
Protect yourself: Phil says you’ve got to do your due diligence to really know who you’re dating, and who people you’re caring about are dating. He also says to protect yourself by any means possible.
No one should have to go to work fearing that they might be attacked. Phil says we might never understand hate, and we probably don’t want to understand the hate.
“We just have to accept that people have a right to feel the way they’re going to feel,” he said. “But they don’t have a right to necessarily act on that feeling.”
What do you think about these terrifying statistics? What can you do to protect yourself? How do you deal with hate and anger?
